Poll: Will The World End On Saturday?

DETROIT (WWJ) - You've probably seen the billboards from a west-coast Christian group predicting that Saturday, May 21, will be the Rapture, the taking up in heaven of God's elected people -- 144,000, to be exact.

This is the same group led by broadcaster Harold Camping, who inaccurately predicted the same thing back in 1994. So, is there any credibility to their claims?

WWJ Newsradio spoke Friday with Pastor Emery Moss Jr., of Strictly Biblical Bible Teaching Ministries in Detroit.

"There's nothing in studying the Bible that gives you an exact date of when Jesus will come, or when the end will come," Moss said.

"Jesus clearly communicated in the gospels, and Paul writes in First Thessalonians, (verse) five, that he comes as a thief in the night. We will not know the day or the hour," he said.

So what do some Metro Detroiters think about the supposed End of Times?

The state of the economy, even the weather, makes one man wonder if this could really be it.  "A lot of it's in the Bible right now, what's happening now," he told WWJ's Ron Dewey.

But, does he really expect the world to end tomorrow? "That would suck," he said.

Another said this exact date doesn't jibe with his schedule. But, when the time comes, he'll be ready.

"My people, they tell me it's going to be December 23rd, 2012, it's gonna happen that day.  I'm gonna be drinking. I'm gonna be partying. It's gonna be a good time!"
