High School Ring Found After 40 Years At The Beach

MIDLAND (WWJ/AP) - A Midland woman and her high school class ring have been reunited after 40 years apart.

Cathy White believed her 1971 class ring from T.L. Handy High School in Bay City was lost forever in the sands at the Bay City State Recreation Area.

That's where her high school sweetheart and future husband, Neal White, was wearing the ring when it went missing during a softball game.

"I spent days looking for the ring," Neal White told WWJ.  White says he believes the ring came off of his pinky finger when he removed his mitt after playing softball.

But a man using a metal detector found it and returned it to White who, through tears joked that she won't be letting her husband wear it any time soon.

White's husband says that the return of the ring "brought tears to her eyes". He says this was a ring that his wife had bought herself with money earned babysitting.
