Michigan Soldier Killed In Afghan Attack

LAINWELL (AP) - The Pentagon says a 23-year-old Army private from southwestern Michigan was one of four U.S. soldiers killed in an insurgent attack in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Wednesday that Pvt. Thomas C. Allers of the Plainwell was part of a unit that was attacked with an improvised explosive device Monday in Kunar province.

The Pentagon identifies the other soldiers as 33-year-old Staff Sgt. Kristofferson B. Lorenzo of Chula Vista, Calif.; 21-year-old Pfc. William S. Blevins of Sardinia, Ohio; and 20-year-old Pvt. Andrew M. Krippner of Garland, Texas.

The four soldiers were part of the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. It's based at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
