Detroit's Health Director Resigns Over Money Probe
DETROIT (AP) - Detroit's health director has resigned amid a probe on spending.
Yvonne Anthony was escorted from the Department of Health and Wellness Promotion on Wednesday after she told staff members that she was planning to resign. Anthony's abrupt departure comes as police and internal investigators look into the department's finances, according to the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News. Mayor Dave Bing's spokeswoman Karen Dumas says the probe "will determine if there was mismanagement and wrongdoing in that department."
A similar probe is under way at the city's Department of Human Services where the mayor suspended the director and several staff members over allegations of the misuse of federal grant money.
Bing, who's seen 30 upper-level staffers leave over the past two years, denies critics' claims that his administration is unstable.
