IS THIS YELLING? (Etiquette In A Digital World)

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - When it comes to texting what bugs you the most?  WWJ's Sandra McNeill took the question out onto the streets of Royal Oak, where people had no shortage of complaints about those on their contact lists.

Nga from Oak Park said, "I hate it when people text the one letter 'k.'  I hate that so much.  It kind of just stops the conversation."

Her friend Alexis, who also lives in Oak Park, is bothered by a similar thing.  "I hate it when people just send 'LOL.'  Like sending a long text to them and they just send 'LOL.'  I want a response!" she said.

Anita from Shelby Township wants a more prompt response from her friends.  She said she's bothered by, "my girlfriends who sit on their phone and when I text them, they take forever to respond.  It makes me feel like they're ignoring me."

That last pet peeve was shared by local social media consultant Terry Bean who founded Networked, Inc.  He said it's rude not to answer a text within 6 to 10 hours.  "I think there is a timeliness in texting and after that ten-hour period, I have a hard time believing you haven't seen your phone in ten hours."

Others told WWJ that they're irked by poor grammar and the use of abbreviations that they sometimes don't understand.
