St. Mary's Polish Country Fair Is Memorial Day Weekend

ORCHARD LAKE (WWJ) - The 40th Annual Polish Country Fair will once again be held on the picturesque campus of St. Mary's Prep, May 27 through 30.

Now the nation's largest high school fair, the Fair marks the traditional start of summer for Michiganders.

With entertainment, food and affordable fun, the Fair delivers a Memorial Day weekend "Stay-cation Get-Away" for over 110,000 Michiganders of all ages annually.

Unlike major theme parks, the Fair requires no entrance fee while delivering fun for young and old alike.

"We call our Polish Country Fair a 'Stay-cation Get-Away' because we try and provide a backyard get together that eliminates the road rage, long drives and expensive gas associated with going to Northern Michigan with a great entertaining atmosphere," Jim Glowacki, headmaster of St. Mary's Prep, said in a statement.

Of course, Polish food is center stage at the Fair. The Polish Combo Meal is a great selection of Polish favorites including a variety of pierogi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut.

Fair patrons consumed over 20,000 pierogi (cheese, potato, mushroom or sauerkraut filled dumplings) at last year's festival. Bozek Market, the official pierogi sponsor, will supply an estimated 25,000 Polish Harvest brand pierogi for this year's Fair.

Other appetizing fare includes all-American hamburgers, corn dogs, hot dogs, French fries, cotton candy, popcorn, candy apples, elephant ears, snow cones, ice cream, ice-cold beer and much more.

In conjunction with Mid-America Shows, the amusement ride partner of the Fair, the event offers 50 carnival rides for all ages. The popular all-day ride passes are $23. Due to its amazing success last few years, Fair will once again feature the Crazy Mouse Spinning Roller Coaster - an 80 ft. high roller coaster!

You can play games and win prizes along the Carnival Midway, take the kiddies to the expansive Kid Zone, shop local crafters, press your luck in the Vegas and bingo tents or strike it rich in the St. Mary's Raffle and win $10,000.

You can also dance the night away to live music or just enjoy the bands, playing a mix of rock and roll, easy listening and jazz.

Overlooking the banks of Orchard Lake on the campus of St. Mary's Prep, the Polish Country Fair hours are:

  • Friday - 5 pm to 11 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday - 11 am to 11 pm
  • Monday - 11 am to 8 pm

Parking is $10 per vehicle. St. Mary's Prep is located at 3535 Indian Trail in Orchard Lake at Commerce and Orchard Lake roads.
