Sterling Heights Officer Shoots Woman Armed With Knife

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - In Sterling Heights, a woman has been shot after police say she threatened an officer with a kitchen knife.

It all began late Wednesday night when officers responded to reports of a suicidal woman on Independence Drive, in the area of 18 Mile and Van Dyke Ave.

According to police, when officers entered the woman's home, she jumped from the couch and rushed them with the knife. Officers repeatedly told the woman to drop the knife, but police say she refused and moved closer.

At that point, one of the officers fired a single shot at the woman. She was taken to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital were she was reported in stable condition, Thursday.

No officers were hurt.

The case will be given to the Macomb County Prosecutors office.
