DETROIT (WWJ) - Prosecutors say he owes tens of thousands of dollars in back children support to five different women. Now, 41-year-old Tyrease Hicks of Detroit is behind bars, waiting for a court appearance next month.
According to the Attorney General’s Child Support Division, Hicks failed to make support payments for five families, currently owing $214,647.
“If you have the ability but refuse to support your children, we will hold you accountable,” said Attorney General Bill Schuette. “When times are tough, it’s even more critical that kids receive the care they need and deserve.
Hicks was arrested without incident at a Lister Street home and faces five separate charges.
Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee said he was happy to assist in the case, to help ensure that those who don’t adhere to their parental responsibilities are held accountable. “Our goals are the same, to provide a quality of life for all who reside within our communities,” Godbee said, in a statement.
A preliminary exam in all five cases is scheduled for June 21.
