U.S. Students Making Better Marks In Math

American kids are doing better in mathematics. That is the news from The Nation's Report card, the U.S. Department of Education's report on how students are performing relative to the past and relative to their peers in other countries.

On the National Assessment of Education progress, a test given nation-wide to a sample of students, elementary, middle and high school students have all improved performance in math.

The biggest gains came in 4th grade, where from 1990 to 2009, the average score increased by 27 points. While middle and high school students improved by a smaller amount, all grade levels improved significantly.
