Township Officials Advise Residents To Get Temporary Shelter

NORTHFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Residents around Horshoe Lake in Northfield Township near Whitmore Lake are advised that they can get temporary shelter if they're flooded out of their homes. Township Supervisor Deb Mozurkewich says recent rains have caused the water to be waist-high in spots.

The American Red Cross will provide emergency shelter for any residents flooded out of their homes in Northfield Township where there's flooding around Horshoe Lake.  Mozurkewich says they can get a voucher for a hotel if they have 12 inches of standing water in their home.

"Red Cross is right now able to supply vouchers for people to stay in hotels if they need to. Their requirements are that there's 12 inches of standing water in the living area of the home," says Mozurkewich.

Mozurkewich says the water in the roadway is at waist level in spots. She says you can call the fire department at 734-449-2385  if you need shelter or a boat to get out of your home.

Township officials say they're hoping the rains hold off because the Huron River isn't expected to crest until Tuesday.
