Barry Sanders' Father William Dies Of Lymphoma

William Sanders died in his Wichita home early today from symptoms associated with lymphoma at about 2 a.m. with his family near.

Barry Sanders rose to college and pro football stardom. When he won the Heisman Trophy in 1988, he thanked his father and mother Shirley for being an inspiration and for raising him the right way.

When Barry Sanders was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004, his father introduced him. "Willie" Sanders said his son was the third best running back of all time, behind Jim Brown and William Sanders.

William Sanders was 74.
