High school students often do not realize how much their writing may be worth. Numerous essay contests offer opportunities for students to win money based on their writing talent.

The website Fastweb.com offers a long list of scholarship writing contests, with topics for every type of student you can imagine. For instance, the David Letterman Telecommunications scholarship offers money to average, but creative students. There are contests for students to write about the environment, such the A Better World contest, and for students who want to write about vegetarianism – from Vegetarian Resource Group.

Some contests are for essays students have already written — the College Prowler essay contest gives a prize for the best college application essay each month.
