Police: Girl On Cell Phone Fatally Struck By Car

LEXINGTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a 10-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car while crossing a road as she talked on a cell phone.

Korylette Kucken of Croswell was struck about 2:30 pm Wednesday in Sanilac County's Lexington Township, about 65 miles northeast of Detroit. Michigan State Police say the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Trooper John Daily told The Times Herald a Pontiac Grand Am driven by a Lexington woman with her two children in the car struck Korylette, who was running across the road as she talked on her cell phone.

Korylette attended Croswell-Lexington Middle School, where classes had been dismissed early at noon because of a water main break at another school.

Croswell-Lexington School District Superintendent Kevin Miller says a crisis intervention team was to be on hand Thursday at the middle school.

It is not clear if any citations or charges would be issued, as the investigation is ongoing.
