Chicago Vs. Detroit 6-3-11

The Detroit Tigers are on the verge of matching their longest winning streak against the Chicago White Sox - a record set 88 years ago.

The Tigers go for their 10th straight victory over the White Sox on Friday night as the teams open a three-game series at U.S. Cellular Field.

Detroit (29-26) swept three games at home against the White Sox (27-31) from April 22-24, outscoring them 21-3 while posting two shutouts in the final two contests. The Tigers have outscored Chicago 65-20 during the win streak.

Detroit won 10 in a row in the series from June 26-Oct. 3, 1923. The Tigers may have a good shot at matching that run as they have won five in a row at U.S. Cellular Field, scoring 37 runs.

Detroit, though, has not won six straight on the road versus the White Sox since July 15, 1979-Aug. 26, 1980.

The Tigers have won their last four after a three-game sweep of Minnesota. They'll face a White Sox team that swept three games in Boston in its last series, scoring 24 runs.

"It's nice to get three wins before the off day, but we're still behind the eight ball," first baseman Paul Konerko said after homering and driving in three runs in a 7-4 victory Wednesday. "We don't have any room, probably, for anymore lapses."

Detroit has also been hot at the plate, totaling 21 runs in its last four games. Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run homer in the third inning and Rick Porcello pitched into the seventh as the Tigers beat the Twins 4-2 on Wednesday.

"I think it will be mostly feast the rest of the year," left fielder Brennan Boesch said. "We got a good team and we're confident."

Cabrera went 4 for 11 with two doubles and four runs against the White Sox in April. He's struggled throughout his career at U.S. Cellular Field, though, batting .208 in 32 games for his lowest average at any park. He has hit six homers and driven in 16 runs there.

The slugger is 2 for 20 against Mark Buehrle (4-4, 3.91 ERA), who has posted a 2.79 ERA in his last six starts.

Buehrle allowed three runs in seven innings of a 4-2 loss to Toronto last Friday that snapped his three-game winning streak.

The left-hander is 16-9 with a 3.18 ERA against the Tigers, but he struggled versus Detroit on April 22, surrendering six runs in 5 2-3 innings of a 9-3 defeat. Buehrle, though, is 8-3 with a 2.93 ERA in the series at home.

Andy Oliver (0-0, 4.50) is scheduled to make a second straight start in place of the injured Phil Coke. The left-hander pitched six innings and gave up three runs in his season debut Sunday, a 4-3 home defeat to the Red Sox.

Oliver, who made five starts in 2010, hasn't faced the White Sox.
