Senate Committee Considers Gov's Bridge Proposal
LANSING (WWJ) - Michigan Governor Rick Snyder is not giving up on his July 4th deadline to get the Michigan legislature to approve a new bridge between Detroit and Windsor.
But, speaking to WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick, the chairman of the Senate committee considering the question said he's not quite on board yet.
"It's really tight. It puts a lot of pressure on and I don't want anybody to feel like they're being pressured," said Republican Senator Mike Caldwell from Oakland County.
"I don't have anywhere near the information that I need," he said.
Wearing a "Build the Bridge" button, Gov. Snyder kicked off last week's policy conference on Mackinac Island by pushing for approval of a new international crossing.
Governor Snyder said there was mis-information being spread about the proposed bridge and it would create long-term jobs in Michigan. "It's a great opportunity," Snyder said. (More on this story, here).
