Senator Supports Decision To Withdraw Troops From Afghanistan

LANSING (WWJ) - Michigan's Senior U.S. Senator Carl Levin said he's supportive of an expected decision from President Barack Obama to begin a draw down of troops from Afghanistan as early as next month.

"The Afghan Army has been growing ahead of its goals, its willing to fight," Levin said. "There is a shortage of logistics and intelligence and that kind of supporting groups, but it is something which needs to be done, because we cannot be there in an open-ended position."

Chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Levin recommended a draw down of 15,000 U.S. troops from the country by the end of 2011.

President Obama said he will announce next month how many troops will begin to be withdrawn.
