American Idol Among Headliners For Campus Martius 'Summer In The Park'

DETROIT (WWJ) - American Idol 2010 Season 9 Winner Lee DeWyze is among the headliners who will rock the seventh annual FREE "Summer in the Park" entertainment series this summer at Campus Martius Park.

Summer in the Park is an 11-week program packed with music, comedy, art, fashion, local fare and family fun that begins June 14 and runs through August 30.

"Summer in the Park has become a tradition that pulls visitors from within and outside the region to enjoy our wonderful city. Guests are welcome to come to the Park to enjoy special lunchtime activities, listen to music, relax on our beautiful lawns, or simply take in all of the sights and sounds that downtown Detroit has to offer," Detroit 300 Conservancy President Bob Gregory said in a statement.

Summer in the Park includes the "Lunchtime Arts" concert program that features some of Detroit's best musical talent, the "4th Fridays in the Park" entertainment series, and Healthy Moves.

Taking place the fourth Friday of every month between June and August, 4th Fridays in the Park is a day-long celebration with a full line-up of activities including music, comedy, food, fashion, family entertainment, movies and more.

DeWyze is slated to perform July 22 as part of 4th Fridays in the Park.

Stars of the Detroit Music Awards will again be prominently featured in 4th Fridays in the Park events. Detroit Music Awards' on June 24 finds Sean Blackman, 2011 DMA Outstanding World/Reggae/Ska Instrumentalist, leading an exciting ensemble of award winners and nominees dance party-style from 8:45 to 10:30 pm.

Additional musical acts that will perform at the Park this summer are the Wall Clocks (June 24), The Ralphe Armstrong Show (July 22) and ensembles from the Detroit Jazz Festival Summer Institute with jazz master drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts (Aug. 26).

New to the Summer in the Park this year is a comedy series on 4th Fridays at Happy Hour from 4:30 to 7 pm, a fashion show featuring Motor City Denim Company's Joe Faris of "Project Runway" fame and featuring jewelry collections from Detroit's Richard Wright of Wrighteous Denim (June 24), and Fun for Children, 12 to 3 pm on 4th Fridays beginning June 24.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit presents Healthy Moves, with Tai Chi 5:30 to 6:30 pm on Tuesdays, June 14 through Aug. 23 and Yoga 9 to 10 am on Saturdays, June 18 through Aug. 27.
