Funeral Home Scammers Will Face Judge

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - After swindling hundreds of pre-paid funeral holders, a pair of funeral home owners from Roseville will face the judge Tuesday.

WWJ's Ron Dewey reports that the owners of Buehler Funeral Home, 62-year-old Mark Buehler and his wife, 47-year-old Lisa Buehler, each face up to five years in prison after pleading guilty last month to 37 counts of funeral contract conversion. Police initially reported as many as 200 victims and $500,000 in prepaid funeral funds that were not put into escrow over the last four years. After a handyman at the funeral home went to police, two luxury cars and other items were seized from the Buehler's home, with their assets frozen.

The Free Press reports the funeral home is now part of negotiations for a partnership or to be sold.
