Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall On Display At Canton Liberty Fest

CANTON (WWJ) - The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, a traveling 3/5 scaled replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be on display during the Canton Liberty Fest Thursday, June 16 through Sunday, June 19.

Standing six feet tall, the Traveling Wall spans over 250 feet in length and weighs five tons. Its black, reflective surface is inscribed with the names of more than 58,267 servicemen and women who were lost or killed during the Vietnam War.

Paper and pencils will be provided so visitors can make rubbings of names etched on the wall. The Traveling Memorial Wall will be on display in Heritage Park on the practice field adjacent to the ball fields.

The Wall will be escorted to its exhibition location by VVA 528 riders, The Patriot Guard of Michigan and the American Legion Riders, where the replica will be set up on Thursday in preparation for the opening ceremony to be held at 6 pm the same day.

The exhibit will open to the public Thursday from 2 to 9 pm, Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 9 pm and Sunday from 9 am until the closing ceremony at 5 pm.

Also on tap for the Twentieth Annual Liberty Fest are carnival rides, midway games, live entertainment, petting zoo, children's crafts, adult beverage tent, U.S. Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon and Saturday night fireworks.
