Detroit Firefighters Assc. Fights Budget Cuts

The Detroit Firefighters Association has launched a campaign aimed at avoiding budget cuts to public safety.

The Detroit Firefighters Association is airing commercials as part of its campaign to protect public safety from the budget ax. Some of those commercials have aired on WWJ.

"We're trying to raise awareness of what's going on. We want to keep this city. We want to help our city survive and we want to protect the citizens during this whole mess. And when you're talking about just taking money away, what about the people out in the streets? What about the people that pay their taxes? There's no voice," says president Dan McNamara.

He says his members are also concerned. "Our membership doesn't know what's going on from day-to-day and they're worried. We keep coming to work with less and less people and they're worried they're not going to have their jobs tomorrow. They don't understand why somebody would make a decision to cut public safety," says McNamara.
