Matt Dery: Dumars A Busy Man

The Pistons are moving at a quick pace to interview candidates for their vacant head coaching job. ESPN is reporting that President Joe Dumars has already talked to Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank and ex Hawks head man Mike Woodson. Woody has Detroit ties, having been an assistant under Larry Brown here with the Pistons. Reportedly the next to interview will be Kelvin Sampson, the Milwaukee assistant, who in my opinion could be the best fit. Sampson is dynamic and was a big-time winner at the college level. I know he has ties to Detroit, with good friends and associates who know Dumars, and he will definitely get a close look. It is expected that Sampson will be in town later this week, with Bill Laimbeer and Mavs assistant Dwane Casey, also to get interviews next week. It is a busy time for Joe D, with the draft coming up a week from today. Sources tell me that Notre Dame guard lBen Hansbrough was among a group that was scheduled to work out for the Pistons today.
