Nail Gun Fired At Officers During Standoff

SUMMIT TOWNSHIP (AP) - Authorities in southern Michigan say a man fired a gas-powered nail gun at law enforcement officers during a standoff that began following a report of a domestic assault.

The Jackson County sheriff's department says in a statement that deputies were dispatched to the home in Summit Township, near Jackson, on Wednesday evening and learned that the 50-year-old man may have assaulted his girlfriend inside.

The department says other people got out of the home but the man stayed inside, threatened to kill deputies and emerged several times to fire the nail gun at officers.

Following a standoff, members of a tactical team went inside and subdued the man with a stun gun.

The man was arrested and held in the county jail pending formal charges. No serious injuries were reported.
