Walk Raises Money To Repair Vandalism At Baseball Field

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Weeks after vandals spray painted a special baseball park made for physically and mentally challenged children -- at the Southfield City Center on Evergreen -- a special fundraising walk is being held Saturday morning for the Miracle League.

In May, obscenities were painted on the surface of the field, which is made of rubber, so that it is accessible to wheelchairs and walkers.

Walk Coordinator Michael Watts said the damage was severe and will cost a lot to fix.

"We're trying to help with this walk to donate some money. It's going to cost between $30,000 and $50,000 to get the field back in shape, because it's not something that can just be, you can't just take paint remover and remove it. The stuff has to be treated properly or it won't survive," Watts said.

Watts said the funds raised will also help the Miracle League and their other efforts across the nation.
