The Fatherhood Initiative PSA's Spotlight Father's Day

DETROIT (WWJ) - You may have already seen them on television.

The annual Fatherhood Initiative public service announcement campaign is back, with new spots this Father's Day.

WWJ spoke with Bill Ludwig, Chairman and CEO of Campbell Ewald ... a production company with offices in Detroit that donated their time to support the Fatherhood Initiative campaign.

"Children who grow up in homes with fathers are more likely to stay in school, less likely to get involved in a felonies or become involved in drugs, what we wanted to do was tell them that  you don't have to be a super hero to be a great dad, the smallest moments can make the biggest difference in a child's life, just spend time with your kids," said Ludwig.

Nearly 80-percent of Americans feel the most significant family or social problem facing this country is the physical absence of a father in the home.

Ludwig notes that an estimated 24 million children in the U.S., or one-in-three kids... live apart from their fathers.

Reversing that trend is the goal of an annual national Public Service Campaign entitled The Fatherhood Initiative.

This year's theme: "The smallest moments can have the biggest impact on a child's life.  Take time to be a Dad today."
