Poll: Karen Dumas For Detroit Mayor?

DETROIT (WWJ) - She's out as Detroit Mayor Dave Bing's communications director, but now there are online postings urging Karen Dumas to make a run for mayor.

As of Monday morning, a "Karen Dumas for Mayor" Facebook page had popped up and there were already dozens of members in a "Karen Dumas For Mayor" Facebook group.

Does she have a shot?  WWJ's Vickie Thomas spoke with Detroiters, including Robin Smith, wearing a Spirit of Detroit emblem around his neck, who said he'd vote for her.

"So far, Bing is not doing too good and the mayors we had in the past didn't do too good, so how much worse could she do, you know? Let's give it a try," Smith said.

Other Detroiters say they aren't sure if Dumas has sufficient experience to run the city.

Mayor Bing requested and received Dumas' resignation last Friday. This comes as Mayor Bing, along with Dumas and the City of Detroit, is being sued by former mayoral aide Rochelle Collins for wrongful dismissal. Collins said it was stressful working with Dumas, who she says is responsible for most of the turnover in Bing's administration. The lawsuit characterizes Dumas as a chaos-causing, vindictive micro-manager, but she refutes that. (More on this, here).
