Arrest Made In Connection With Flint House Fires

FLINT (WWJ) – Police said they have made one arrest in connection with a string of fires at vacant homes in Flint.

The Flint Fire Department responded to nine house fires in a five-hour span during the overnight hours between June 20 and 21. Arson is suspected in all nine fires which were set in vacant houses, just blocks apart, in a Flint eastside neighborhood.

During a Tuesday news conference, Public Safety Director Alvern Lock said the suspect arrested may be responsible for five of the arson fires. Three firefighters suffered heat exhaustion while battling the fires.

Prior to the news conference, Mayor Dayne Walling said he couldn’t imagine why someone would purposely set fires, putting the lives of innocent people at risk.

The fires are under investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Flint Police Department at 810-237-6901.
