Two Teens Wounded By Gunshots At Fireworks

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say a 14-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl were wounded by gunshots at the 53rd Annual Target Fireworks.

Detroit Police Sgt. Erin Stephens said the boy was showing off a handgun when he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the thigh, while a bullet ricochet hit the nearby girl in the upper thigh.

Both teens were taken to Children's Hospital for treatment, both last reported in stable condition.

Police estimate over 700,000 people packed the downtown riverfront for the firework celebration.
