Matt Dery's Daily Update 6-27-11
The Tigers step away from interleague play for just one night, Detroit at home to face the Toronto Blue Jays in a rain out make-up game. Detroit in first place all by themselves with a one game lead over Cleveland. Max Scherzer gets the start for Jim Leyland, Scherzer is 2-0 with an ERA under 2 lifetime against the Jays. Rookie righty Zach Stewart goes for the Blue Jays, making just his third big league start. The game starts at 6:05 due to the fireworks downtown.
Carlos Guillen will begin a rehab assignment down at single A Lakeland today. He will DH to start with and then eventually play some at 2nd base. Guillen is not expected back to Detroit until after the All-Star break.
A god fit for the Pistons in free agency has decided to opt out, All-Star power forward David West from the Hornets has decided to walk away from $7.5 million and test the waters this summer.
