City Of Pontiac Looking For 6K Fee For Freedom March

PONTIAC (WWJ) - Freedom isn't free ... and apparently neither is holding a Freedom March in Pontiac on the 4th of July.

WWJ Newsradio 950 Reporter Mike Campbell has the exclusive report on this story.

It's supposed to be an Independence Day Celebration with 400 to 500 Freedom Marchers in Pontiac this coming Monday. But event organizer Kevin Lamb says the city's Emergency Financial Manager is requiring a $6,000 dollar administration fee be put up first.

"We were surprised to hear it ourselves, we thought they'd be very happy and on board - with a chance to bring a positive event and some attention to the city, and at first they thought that we'd have to close down the streets but that is not the case," said Lamb.

Lamb says he was given no explanation for the fee. Lamb says the Freedom March goes on, at 10 a.m. on the 4th of July from the corner of Saginaw and Lafayette to the Phoenix Center. All are welcome.

Emergency Financial Manager Michael Stampfler hasn't returned calls for comment.
