Lions' Suh Holds Football Camp For Kids

WALLED LAKE (WWJ) - Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh held a youth football camp for over 200 excited youngsters at Walled Lake Western High School.

On Tuesday, the kids ran, passed and learned the fundamentals of football all hoping they could meet and be just like Suh.  Suh remembers the impact camps like these had on kids like him.

"Being a young guy in high school, who just gave me the opportunity to kind of see myself in an opportunity to just go out and have fun and at the same time learn discipline, determination, and having fun with it," said Suh.

This is the Lions' standout's first football camp for kids ages 7 to 14 on skills and drills.  More than 100 youths filled the Ford Field turf last week at the Detroit Lions Youth Football Camp.

Campers like Michael Chandler of Ypsilanti were ready to line up with the big guy.

"Well, it's going to be very exciting to see how it goes out," said Chandler before the start of camp, Tuesday.  "I think it will be very fun."  Chandler said that one day he thinks he will be able to play football just like Suh.

"I'm really excited," said another boy who said that Suh was one of his favorite players.

Gary Richards of the Boys and Girls Club of Flint said that Suh was all the kids were talking about on the way to camp.

"He carries himself very well so people kind of look up to him," said Richards.  "These kids look up to him and they want to be like him, you know, as far as on the field and off the field."

Later on Tuesday, Suh held a similar camp at Osborn High School in Detroit.

"If you didn't want to have to travel to come all the way out here to Walled Lake, it's being able to have pretty much two sides of the city to be able to do one out here in Walled Lake and then go down there," Suh said.
