Matt Dery’s Daily Update 6-29-11

Today is the expected day that Jaromir Jagr will make a decision on 2011-2012. The 29 year old forward has a reported one year offer on the table from the Pittsburgh Penguins. His agent Petr Svoboda is also talking to the Red Wings GM Ken Holland. Jagr has not ruled out playing in Russia once again this season.

The Tigers look to bounce back after serving up 14 runs to the New York Mets in a loss last night, game 2 of this series at Comerica Park. A struggling Phil Coke on the mound tonight for Detroit opposed by fellow lefty Chris Capuano. Mets are over 500 for the first time since the first week of the season. Tigers lead remains one in the AL Central; Cleveland has a day game today.

The Pistons likely saying goodbye to forward DaJuan Summers, the team has elected not to tender him a qualifying offer for the upcoming season, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Tomorrow night at midnight is the end to the current NBA collective bargaining agreement. Reports say a small group of owners and players will gather for talks tomorrow in New York to try and avoid a lockout.
