Kettering University to Host Free Technology Entrepreneurial Training Program

FastTrac TechVenture, a training program that shows entrepreneurs and small business owners how to start or revamp a technology business, will be provided free in Flint in July and August.

Alexander Masters of Kettering University's TechWorks said the program will introduce the key elements of starting or revamping a technology business.

"Participants produce an effective five to seven page business plan and learn how to effectively pitch others on their idea," Masters said.

Masters said the program's $700 fee is being waived during the summer session.

"The workshop normally costs $700 but is being sponsored at no cost to participants by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center and the program host, Kettering University TechWorks," Masters said.  "This includes a free workbook, text materials, and an opportunity to network with the guest speakers, facilitators, and other participants."

Added former participant Jim McMillan, an IT professional: "This was definitely worth my time, not just to help my business, but to get a better understanding of the many elements that are outside of my scope of responsibility."

Expert guest speakers include patent attorneys, venture capitalists, technology entrepreneurs, and other professionals who will provide real-life examples of the many challenges and successes that an entrepreneur may experience.

TechVenture consists of five sessions with each session running from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Networking time is available throughout each session. Session dates are July 20, 27, Aug. 3, 10, and 17.

To register, send your contact information to rsvp@kettering.edu. Any questions regarding the program may be directed to Alexander Masters at mast3240@kettering.edu or (810) 762-9728.
