Arson Suspected In String Of Fires In Flint

FLINT (AP) - Authorities in Flint have responded to string of 11 fires, including a salvage yard blaze and eight suspected arsons at abandoned homes.
Battalion Chief John Babb tells The Flint Journal that the fires occurred late Monday and early Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called to Spooner Metals salvage yard about 9 p.m. Monday and remained on the scene for more than seven hours. Smoke could be seen for miles. Babb says old tires and junk cars burned, and the cause of the fire wasn't immediately known.

The suspected arsons were on the city's east and south sides. Babb says crews also responded to two fires at occupied homes.

Last month, a suspect was arrested in a number of possible arsons in an eastside Flint neighborhood.
