Authorities Say Mom Drove Drugged With Kids In Car

PULASKI TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A 31-year-old Jackson County woman is in jail after officials say she was caught twice in just two weeks driving under the influence of drugs with a child in the car.

Sheriff Steve Rand says Christine Devine-Martin had one of her older children in the car the first time, and her 2-year-old in the car during the second incident.

Rand said she was pulled over after she was caught driving recklessly.

"The peculiar part of this is she was out on bond for the previous offense. She has not even been to court to speak to the first offense, and now here she is, she's already stacked up a second one against her," Rand told WWJ Newsradio 950.

"It's bad enough to endanger everyone else on the road but when you're getting kids directly involved, I think that's one of our principal duties, not just as law enforcement, but as society to protect our children. And this is just way over the line," he said.

Rand said prescription medications were found in Devine-Martin's car.  She faces a number of charges including child endangerment and driving under the influence.

Her children have been placed with a family member.
