Hackel Takes Political Swipe At Neighboring Execs

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel has made some less-than-flattering remarks about his counterparts in Oakland and Wayne counties, and they say "What's up with that?"

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson says he's disappointed that Hackel accused him of stealing the limelight when it comes to fiscal responsibility, and had this bit of sarcasm for the former Sheriff:

"Mark Hackel is a star. He runs the best county in the state, and we just sit here and worship at his alter, trying to figure out how he does so well," Patterson said.

Patterson said he takes particular exception to some of Hackel's comments.

"Automation Alley, which is a phenomenal success by the way, is a figment of my imagination, doesn't exist. Medical Main Street is just another PR spin by Patterson," Patterson said while taping a segment on WWJ-TV's Michigan Matters Thursday.

Hackel has been pushing a defense corridor in Macomb County in hopes of attracting new jobs.

You can hear all of the comments on this weekend's edition of Michigan Matters, which airs at 11 a.m. Sunday on WWJ-TV, CBS Detroit.
