Had A 'Suh-per' Time With Ndamukong Suh

When most people meet me, they don't think I am a sports fan.  But don't judge a book by its cover.  I am a huge NFL fan!  But don't judge me based on what I am about to say: I am a die hard Philadelphia Eagles fan.  No worries though, I will be a Detroit Lions fan too!

It was exciting to meet the NFL Rookie of the Year, Ndamukong Suh.

We decided to meet at the Subway restaurant on Northwestern Highway in Southfield.  Why Subway?  It is one of the companies he endorses.

Suh walks in at 6'4" and 307 lbs.  Being 5'6" and 130 lbs didn't stop me from "tackling" the task of making him a breakfast sandwich.  The only trouble I had, was having to look up at him so much, and he had trouble with the plastic gloves since his hands were too big for them!

Suh likes a steak and egg with avocado sandwich.  I requested an egg and cheese with turkey.  We barely made the food right because we were too busy chit-chatting!  Suh told me about his recent trip to Europe with his friend, and Indianapolis Colts player, Cody Glenn.  This was his first across the pond.  He even got a chance to participate in the Gumball 3000.

He has webisodes of this experience at www.nfl.com

I asked Suh, why he endorsed Subway and Chrysler.  He told me that he only lends his support to companies that he believes in.

When it comes to Subway, it is nostalgic.  Suh loved sneaking out the his local Subway when growing up, but that got him in trouble with his mother since that would ruin dinner.

So how is Suh training during the lockdown?  He says that he is very self-motivated and doesn't waste a day or an opportunity to stay shape.  He even jogged through the streets of Venice on his trip.

He told me it's important to give back to the community, that's why he hosted a football camp for kids.  The camp gave both girls and boys the opportunity to learn a few moves.  I love that little girls were allowed in (since I secretly wish I could play football).  Suh agrees with me saying girls should follow their love of football.  In high school, one of the kickers on his team was a girl!

My overall impression of his was great.  I knew he was going to be awesome to hang out with, but after meeting him, I can tell his heart is in the right place when it comes to football and giving back to the community.  Ndamukong Suh has a new fan... that happens to also be an Eagles fan, me!
