DETROIT (WWJ) – A multi-car accident on southbound I-75 near Clay Road has left one person dead.

It happened Friday evening when a 1997 Ford utility truck driven by a 32-year-old Detroit man was pulling onto I-75 and was rear-ended by a 2002 GMC pick-up driven by a 47-year-old man from Rosebush, Michigan.

Sergeant Kim Pegouske with the Michigan State Police described what happened next.

“A 2004 Dodge Neon driven by a 33-year-old male from Novi was unable to avoid the accident and rear ended the GMC pickup. The 47-year-old man received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at Detroit Receiving Hospital. All other drivers and occupants were treated and released,” Pegouske said.

Names have not been released pending notification of next of kin. The accident is under investigation. At this time, it is not known if alcohol was involved.

Metro Detroit’s favorite sport of driving too fast on the freeways collects another victim, a 47 year old guy. Lights out and destination eternity for this guy thanks to another local resident bound and determined to drive someplace faster than the guy in front of him.

Metro Detroit really needs to get smarter

    @ Crash McCar:
Well done, don’t let the facts get in the way of a good rant…

Hey there Crash McCar. I would like to inform you that the UHaul truck that was rear ended pulled out in front of Jeff (the 47 year old) while he was simply driving in the passing lane at 70 mph. This is confirmed by the passenger that loved him dearly that held him while he passed. The driver of the UHAUL truck that merged from the center median and pulled directly in front of him suffered NO injuries to my knowledge. RIP Jeff, you are loved and will be missed.

    Speed Kills… no matter what.
when the speed limit was 55 mph…. we saved gas and lives.
sometimes… we need to step back to go forward.

Speed doesn’t kill, Idiots not paying attention, texting, talking on cell phones, drunk or other wise distracted cause accidents. If you drive 70 you can drive safe if you pay attention to the road in front of you. It is sad this man died but it doesn’t sound like his speed had anything to do with the other negligent driver that cut into his right of way.

The man that died did absolutely nothing wrong. I know this because I was in his truck along side him. A cargo truck pulled out from the median without yielding. It happened so fast there was no time to even brake. Another car hit us from behind as we slammed into the back of the cargo truck. Don’t always assume anything until you know your facts. This senseless accident cost the man that I loved his life, and nearly my own.
