Let The Dirt Fly, It's Mud Day!

WESTLAND (WWJ) - Squish, Squash.  That's the sound you hear when there's mud stuck between your fingers and toes. Kids will have a chance to get plenty dirty and everyone encourages it!

Tuesday is Mud Day at Nankin Mills Park from  11 a.m. – 1 p.m., children ages 12 and younger will make the clean to muddy transformation when Wayne County Parks make the Hines Park-Nankin Mills Area in Westland into one of the messiest playgrounds southeastern Michigan has ever seen.

This is its annual Mud Day celebration for kids.  Wayne County mixes more than 200 tons of topsoil and over 20,000 gallons of water to ensure that the mud is just right.

Children will be separated into age categories for events, like "Mud Limbo" and wheel barrow races. At noon, King and Queen Mud will be crowned.

Make sure your kids are wearing old clothes and shoes and it would be wise to pack a clean change of clothes because there's an onsite clean up area that can be used.

The Hines Park Nankin Mills Area is located on Hines Drive, east of Ann Arbor Trail in Westland.

If Hines Drive is closed you're advised to enter Nankin Mills Park from the Ann Arbor Trail entrance (near Farmington Road).

You can also call Wayne County Parks at (734) 261- 1990.
