Demetri Martin Brings The Laughs To Meadow Brook

ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) - Emmy Award nominated comedian, actor and musician Demetri Martin is coming to Metro Detroit, set to perform at the Meadow Brook Music Festival on Saturday.

Best known for his work as a stand-up comedian, staff writer for Late Night with Conan O'Brien and contributor for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Martin was voted one of the "25 Funniest People in America" by Entertainment Weekly. He recently spoke with WWJ's Chrystal Knight about his humble beginnings.

"This was kind of like a dream to be in showbiz. So I started out and I got temp jobs along with it, because of course it didn't pay. So I would do temp jobs during the day and stand up a night, this was all in New York, in the city," he said.

Martin even has a book on the New York Times Best Seller list. But the funny guy still knows what it feels like to be told "no."

"In 2001 I got a development deal to write a sitcom for NBC, but that didn't become a show. But it was the first time that I ever had a bite, you know, in the business. So I thought, 'Wow, I made some money here with an idea,' but nothing happened with it," he said.

Martin takes the stage at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $34.50 for pavilion and $19.50 for lawn. For more information, visit www.palacenet.com.
