The Detroit Tigers approach the trade deadline, like a lot of teams, looking for pitching help.

FoxSports.com reports Detroit has inquired about the Braves' Derek Lowe and Baltimore right hander Jeremy Guthrie. ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick cites a source that states that the Tigers' chances of dealing for the Dearborn-native Lowe are slim, with money being the biggest sticking point.

The Tigers are off today, before the Oakland A's come to town for the first of two on Tuesday night. Detroit is tied with Cleveland atop the AL Central, with the Indians playing this afternoon in Minnesota in the first of a day night twin bill against the Twins. And, for the third time this year, Cleveland is placing Grady Sizemore on the 15-day DL.

The TV ratings from this weekend's two big events are in ... the women's world cup soccer receiving an 8.6 rating, which is very high for soccer.

While the British open final round gets just a 2.6, the lowest for that tournament ever. Tying last year's open championship..

A sign that the NFL lockout is almost done: Reports say that all 32 NFL teams received a memo Monday, instructing key team executives to attend the NFL owners meetings Thursday in Atlanta

Jim Tressel has found some supporters in his home state. Ohio high school varsity football coaches will reportedly all sport white shirts and a tie in week one of the high school season in a show of solidarity for the ex-Buckeyes boss.  The coaches want to honor tressel for his dedication to the high school game in that state.
