2 Arrested In $315K Armored Car Heist

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ/AP) - Two men have been arrested in an armored car holdup in Sterling Heights after one took a photo of the money in a bathtub.

David Simpson and Fred Daniels were arrested Tuesday in Dodge Chargers police say they bought with money taken in the July 8 Total Armored Car Service holdup in Sterling Heights.

Documents filed in federal court in Detroit say an informant told police one suspect took a cell phone photo showing cash in a bathtub.

Daniels was arrested in a court parking lot in Pontiac. Simpson was arrested in Highland Park. About $150,000 of the $315,000 was recovered.

The armored van was recovered nearby following the heist outside a Michigan Department of Treasury building on Dequindre Road near 18 Mile Road. Police said the robbery was an inside job. Simpson was a driver for Total Armored Car.

The online federal court record system didn't show Wednesday if Simpson and Daniels have lawyers.
