Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy Named Top Economic Development Project

Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy Inc. says its move from Swartz Creek to a former General Motors office and warehouse building in Flint was chosen one of the 15 economic development projects in the nation with the most community impact by Trade and Industry Development Magazine.

The CiCi Award (Corporate Investment and Community Impact) recognized a total of 30 firms, 15 in each of two categories, corporate investment and community impact. Other notable honorees included Facebook, Macy's, Caterpillar, Harley Davidson and Allstate.

Trade & Industry Development Magazine stated: "A number of Community Impact winners are playing a big role in expanding communities' horizons by diversifying their economies. An example of this can be found in Flint, Michigan, where Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy is replacing the loss of a giant auto manufacturer with up to 4,000 well-paying jobs in nursing, pharmacy, information technology, and call-center operations, the move could lead to the creation of a new biotechnology corridor. Indeed, this is a double impact win for Flint: re-use of an abandoned auto plant, and creation of huge numbers of well-paying jobs in nursing, pharmacy and information technology, as well as call center workers."

Said Phil Hagerman, Diplomat president and co-founder: "With the great support of the state of Michigan and the local community, we've adapted our business model and we're focusing our expansion and job growth within Genesee County. We are currently ahead of our goal to hire 1000 people in the next 5 years and 4000 by 2028."
