Man Severely Beaten In Fight Over Cell Phone Charger

WARREN (WWJ) - Police say an apparent argument over a cell phone charger led to a vicious beating. A young man Warren man is hospitalized in critical condition with severe head injuries.

Talking to WWJ Newsradio 950, Warren Police Lt. Dan Beck said it happened on Atlantic Street near 8 Mile when the two men were visiting a couple of girls.

Beck said that's where a 20-year old man allegedly beat his friend in the head with a metal club.

"What we believe is that it was the victim's cell phone charger and the suspect had borrowed it, and the victim was trying to get it back from him, got upset, which led to a physical altercation," Beck said.

"During the altercation, the suspect went into the trunk of his vehicle and took out a club ... the type of club that's used on a steering wheel, to lock the steering wheel and he took that out of his trunk and proceeded to beat the victim in the head several times with the club," he said.

"In fact he hit him so hard with the club that the club actually broke into pieces," Beck said.

Police say they're still looking for the assailant, who took off as the victim was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital.

Police said they have identified the suspect, who has a criminal record.

Detectives are expected to seek a warrant from the Macomb County prosecutor's office as the investigation continues.
