Lawmakers Question MSU Over Tuition Hike

LANSING (WWJ) - Michigan State University is under fire at the state capital over a recent tuition hike. MSU officials are being called on the carpet by state lawmakers who want to know did they violate the governor's proposal to keep tuition increases at or below 7 percent.

WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick says there's a question that maybe the school went over, but Michigan State University president Lou Anna Simon says she did not. "What we chose to do was simply return some money, some cash, to families. And had we chosen to spend it on a building or anything else it wouldn't have been an issue," says Simon.

If it's found MSU did go over 7 percent, they lose more state aid.
