2 Killed Near River By Lightning Strike

OSCODA (WWJ) -  Two women who were tubing on a northern Michigan river when a storm hit were killed in a lightning strike, and a man was critically injured.

Oscoda County Sheriff Kevin Grace says the accident happened about 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Big Creek Township, about 75 miles north-northwest of Bay City in the northern Lower Peninsula.

Grace says the 54-year-old Lewiston women were tubing on the Au Sable River when a storm hit and were taking shelter on the shore when the lightning struck them.

The sheriff says a 57-year-Lewiston man was critically hurt. He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital of Michigan in Saginaw and remains in intensive care.
