Fithian's Fab Five 7-25-11
1. Tigers are looking to make a trade for a starter or reliever. After making a move for third baseman the Tigers can't go out and swing a deal for a starter and a reliever. This is an either/or type thing. Because it's an either or I'll go with trading for a starter.
2. Would I give up Rick Porcello and Jacob Turner for James Shields, Wandy Rodriquez or Ubaldo Jimenez No, I will not give up both for any of three but I'm willing to part with Turner and an additional package of prospects for any of the three. If the Tigers are going to do something in this division and beyond, they will need Porcello and whomever they deal for. My prediction is that the Tigers won't get a front end of the rotation pitcher but a four or a five and not give up Turner.
3. Why has the SEC won the last five BSC titles? Everything about college football is different down there. They practice year around and it's the only show in town. Fans treat the team and the players like pros. Most fans think the players should be paid and don't really care if there team is somehow playing its players. Totally different culture SEC vs. Big Ten and other conferences.
4. Jeff Backus has a torn pec and Gosder Cherilus is coming off of micofracture knee surgery. Not a good sign for the Lions offensive line when this is the current status of their starting tackles.
5. Lawrence Frank the new Pistons head coach? I wanted Jerry Sloan. I will be shocked if Frank lasts more than two seasons on the sideline in Auburn Hills.
