EMU Student's Video On Safe Driving In Running For $10,000 Scholarship

Brandon Kempf, an incoming sophomore at Eastern Michigan University, may come away with a $10,000 scholarship, thanks to a video contest that stresses safety on the road. All it takes is for voters to nominate his entry as the best in the fifth annual Bridgestone Safety Scholars video contest.

Open to students ages 16 to 21, the contest challenged students to create a short video about safe driving and ways to make better decisions behind the wheel. Kempf was one of ten finalists out of nearly 1,500 entries.

Kempf's video, "Mr. Experienced," is a satire on teen male drivers. It demonstrates that being too cool for seat belts or traffic laws can lead to deadly consequences.

His video, along with those of the other nine finalists, is posted online. The public will determine the three top winners by voting online. The deadline is Friday, July 29. The three winners will be announced August 1.

The top three finishers in a public vote will receive scholarships ranging from $10,000 for first place, and $5,000 for second and third place.
