Father Charged With Murder In Daughter's Beating

OXFORD (WWJ) - An Oakland County man accused of beating his daughter with a bat two months ago will now face murder charges.

The 52-year old Robert Kelly, a psychologist, is now charged with first degree pre-meditated murder because 20-year old Megan Roberts died of her injuries Wednesday at Henry Ford Hospital, two months after police say her father beat her with a baseball bat.

According to police, Kelly walked into the Oxford Village Police station May 9 and told officers he beat his daughter in the face and head as she slept.

The Oakland County Prosecutor amended the charges following autopsy findings.

Roberts, who was a student at Oakland Community College, was taken off life support over a week ago.

Her family has set up a website for donations to pay for medical bills, funeral costs and legal fees in a wrongful death lawsuit against the father. Those who wish to donate can visit www.megansteam.com. Secure donations will be accepted via PayPal.
