Girl Hurt By Riding Mower Could Go Home Soon

ANN ARBOR (AP) - Doctors at the University of Michigan's Mott Children's Hospital say a 3-year-old girl who was critically hurt when her grandfather accidentally ran her over with a riding lawnmower is expected to head home soon.

Lauren Stamper was injured June 29 at a home in Livingston County's Genoa Township.

WJBK-TV says doctors at the Ann Arbor hospital amputated part of Lauren's left leg but managed to save her badly injured left arm.

The Livingston County Daily Press & Argus says the 63-year-old grandfather was mowing the lawn when he began backing up to make another pass and didn't see Lauren.

The home is about 40 miles west-northwest of Detroit.

The family says a fund for medical expenses has been set up at TCF Bank and can accept donations at any branch.
