July Was Hottest Ever In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - If it has seemed a bit hotter than usual, it's not just you. July, 2011, will go down as the hottest ever Detroit.

The National Weather Service estimates 79.3 degrees was the average temperature last month, beating the record of 79 degrees set in 1921 and tied in 1955.

There were also 20 days in July on which the temperature reached or exceeded 89 degrees -- tying the highest total set in 1955.

And, according to WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Carl Babinski, we came close to breaking a second record. "In terms of rainfall ... remember all that rain we got last week? Well, it makes it the second wettest July on record," he said.

As we begin a new month, look for partly cloudy skies, Monday, with a stray shower or thunderstorm; high 89, low 72.  Babinski said we can expect a high of 89 again on Tuesday with a shower or thunderstorm possible overnight and into Wednesday morning.
